Many consumers ignore the shelf life of aromatherapy and think “it can be used as long as the scent is still there”. Industry experts remind that expired aromatherapy not only deteriorates in scent, but also may breed harmful substances, endanger health, and need to be replaced in time.
The shelf life of different types of aromatherapy varies greatly: unopened natural essential oil aromatherapy has a shelf life of 2-3 years, and it is recommended to use it up within 6-12 months after opening; improper storage will shorten it to 3-6 months;
unopened aromatherapy candles have a shelf life of 1-2 years, and need to be used up within 6 months after opening, otherwise the wax is easy to deteriorate and the scent volatilizes;
unopened reed diffusers have a shelf life of about 1 year, and the fragrance retention period after opening is usually 1-3 months. After 3 months, the scent fades and bacteria are easy to breed.

Experts said that there are 3 points to observe to judge whether aromatherapy is expired: first, the scent, if there is a pungent odor or rancid smell, it means it has expired; second, the texture, if the essential oil is turbid, the candle has mold spots, and the reed diffuser liquid is layered, it needs to be discarded immediately; third, the use experience, if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable after use, stop using it even if it is not expired. In addition, improper storage will accelerate the expiration of aromatherapy, so avoid high temperature, direct sunlight and humid environment.
