Some merchants claim that aromatherapy “can remove formaldehyde and purify the air” to attract consumers to buy. Environmental experts clearly stated that aromatherapy cannot remove formaldehyde, but can only cover up odors, and may even aggravate indoor air pollution, so we need to be alert to merchant misleading.
Formaldehyde is a colorless and odorless harmful gas. The scent of aromatherapy can only temporarily cover up the formaldehyde odor, but cannot decompose or adsorb formaldehyde molecules.
On the contrary, synthetic fragrances in low-quality aromatherapy will release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which will aggravate indoor air pollution when mixed with formaldehyde, causing double damage to the human respiratory tract and nervous system. Even natural essential oil aromatherapy can only soothe emotions and has no formaldehyde removal effect.

Experts remind that removing formaldehyde requires scientific methods: keeping indoor ventilation is the most effective way; placing green plants such as scindapsus and spider plants can help absorb formaldehyde; choosing professional formaldehyde removal products (such as activated carbon, photocatalyst), but you need to recognize authoritative certification.
Do not believe the propaganda that aromatherapy removes formaldehyde. After new house decoration, it needs to be ventilated for 3-6 months, and you can move in only after passing the test.
